Benefit They’re Real! Mascara: Photos & Review

I am almost out of my trustworthy MAC Opulash, so I thought I would give Benefit’s They’re Real! mascara a try. It’s been pretty hyped up and I’ve heard mixed reviews on it, although most seem to like it, but I wanted to investigate for myself…

Benefit says that They’re Real! “Lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts, and separates. Our jet black, long-wearing formula won’t smudge or dry out”. I did have an issue with slight smudging under my eyes every single time I’ve worn it in the past two weeks (which was about 10 times total). As far as everything else they claim, it really does. I got a lot of compliments on my lashes and they looked super long and black, but it’s nothing totally amazing and different from a lot of other mascaras out there today. The brush is one of those nubby, rubbery kind, which I don’t love, and it was a little difficult to figure out exactly how to use it the way they tell you to. When I used the tip of it, all I got were clumps.

At $22, it’s a little pricey and I think that there are other mascaras that do all of these things without smuding, and cost less. MAC’s False Lashes, both normal and Extreme Black, mascaras are very similar and I haven’t had problems with smudges with those, and it only cost $19. I haven’t tried any drug store brands to compare it to because a great deal of them still test on animals, so I try to stay away from those.

Nice review! I recently found your blog and really enjoy it. πŸ™‚ I totally agree with you about this mascara. I like it, it’s nice, but I don’t think it’s exactly OMGBESTMASCARAEVARRRRR status. I was a bit disappointed since most people seem to be head over heels in love with it.
