MAC Fashion Sets – Russian Red Lipstick, Lipglass and Nail Lacquer: Photos, Swatches and Review

Fashion Sets is MAC’s newest collection featuring “sets” of matching Lipstick, Lipglass, and Nail Lacquer. The colors were chosen based on how popular these shades of lipstick are in different regions of the world. This set features Russian Red, a permanent Lipstick and Lipglass and a limited edition Nail Lacquer. I did not buy the Nail Lacquer in this set because I have SO many reds already, but it’s a very nice match to the Lipglass and Lipstick.

All Russian Red products are available online and at stores and counters as it is part of the North America group, as well as the Europe/Africa and Latin America/Middle East groups of Fashion Sets. These sell for the usual prices, with Lipstick and Lipglass costing $14.50 and Nail Lacquer selling for $16.00.

Russian Red tends to photograph darker than it actually is, as you will see in the swatches below.

Russian Red Lipstick (Matte):   Aside from Viva Glam I, this is my favorite red lipstick of all time. It’s flattering on everyone and makes your teeth look nice and white! It’s an “intense bluish red”. Russian Red is a Matte finish so it gives totally opaque coverage and wears well and a bit longer than most other MAC Lipstick finishes, giving around 6 hours of wear before needing any touch up. Although it’s a Matte, it still has a slight sheen to it. This pairs up nicely with Cherry or Brick Lip Pencil, or even Kiss Me Quick Pro Longwear Lip Pencil.

Russian Red Lipglass:   Unlike all of the other Lipglasses in this collection, Russian Red is permanent. It’s a good match for the lipstick, although it may be a hint warmer and lighter. It’s very thick and creamy and gives opaque coverage.

  1. These look lovely! But since the lipstick and lipgloss are the same colour and both very very pigmented, i probably wouldnt feel the need to buy both – but having said that, Mac products are muchhhh more expensive in Australia :p
