MAC Apres Chic – Lipsticks: Photos, Swatches and Reviews

There are five brand new, limited edition lipsticks out with the Apres Chic collection. Unlike the Strength collection, these are softer, more subdued colors, so you’re bound to find something that suits you. As with the rest of the Apres Chic collection, these have wintery names. They work well with the rest of the products in this collection, so you can play around with Apres Chic and come up with some fantastic faces!

MAC Lipsticks typically wear for 4-6 hours… Longer with Prep + Prime Lip and a liner of some sort, especially if it’s layered underneath the lipstick. They apply smoothly and usually have very good color payoff. MAC Lipsticks have a faint vanilla scent and no taste.

All five of these lipsticks are limited edition and are available now at any MAC counter, store, or online at www.maccosmetics.com. I believe that the only two that are not sold out online at this point are Cozy Up and Warm Companion, so be sure to check your local MAC counter or store if you want to pick these up. MAC Lipsticks sell for $15 and contain 3g / 0.1oz of product.

Apres Chic (Cremesheen):   Apres Chic is the namesake of this collection and is a “pinky brick red” with a Cremesheen finish. It’s a medium to medium-dark, warm, pinkish orange red that’s reminds me of fruit punch. It has a semi-glossy finish since it’s a Cremesheen and it lasted around 4 hours on me before it started to fade. It glides on smoothly and gives fully opaque, even coverage. This is my favorite lipstick in this collection because it’s bright in a way but it’s also soft. It’s really flattering on anyone I’ve seen wearing it! I like to use Half-Red Lip Pencil with this to give it soft definition without adding too much color. You can use nearly any darker pink or red liner with this to alter it to your liking.

Cozy Up Lipstick

Cozy Up Lipstick on LipsCozy Up (Matte):   Cozy Up is described as being a “deep caramel” and has a Matte finish. I can’t say that I see much caramel in this lipstick, aside from how it looks in the tube. Once I applied it, it looked more like a medium, warm, peachy *sort of* caramel, beige-ish brown, but there’s nothing “deep” about Cozy Up! In the photo, my lips were ridiculously chapped because this was the last of my swatches for the day, but it’s actually creamy for a Matte lipstick and has the same kind of sheen that the Mattes from the Strength collection do. It is still a Matte though, so it will show any dry, rough spots on your lips if you don’t prime them first! It wore for 5-6 hours on me before it began to fade and was completely opaque with little product applied. Since it’s a warm color, it’s wearable by nearly everyone, but I think it looks best on light-dark skin. For a liner, you could do nearly any neutral. I liked it best with Spice, but for darker skin, you might want to try it out with Chestnut.

Haute Altitude Lipstick

Haute Altitude Lipstick on LipsHaute Altitude (Amplified):   Haute Altitude is a “midtone blue pink” with an Amplified finish. It’s a medium, slightly cool toned, but nearly neutral pink with totally opaque coverage and a smooth, creamy texture. Amplified lipsticks are highly pigmented and wear for 5-6 hours. It’s a really nice, basic sort of color that doesn’t really stand out, but it’s actually one of my favorites that’s come out recently because it’s SO easily wearable by anyone, with any look. In a way, it reminds me of Please Me lipstick, but Please Me is definitely cooler with more of a blue base. For a liner, you can use a variety of pinks since Haute Altitude is pretty neutral. When I tried this on, I used Dervish, Soar and Whirl, but you can always go darker or lighter, depending on your preference!

Hot Chocolate Lipstick

Hot Chocolate Lipstick on LipsHot Chocolate (Satin):   Hot Chocolate is a “dirty plum” with a Satin finish. It’s a very cool toned, medium-dark, grayish/brown plum with a creamy texture, great color payoff and full opacity. I had it on for 5 and a half hours before it started to fade, which is pretty good for a Satin finish! On me, I prefer this with a dark liner like Nightmoth Lip Pencil because these cool, plummy colors make me look dead unless I just roll with it and vamp it up! It works well with Plum Lip Pencil as well, and you could probably even wear it with something like Chestnut or Mahogany Lip Pencil if your skin is dark to deep… Using those would play up the brown undertones of this lipstick. I think that Hot Chocolate is most flattering on Medium skin and darker… However, these kind of colors are increasingly more popular on fair to light skinned people too, especially this winter, so you might want to give it a shot and see how YOU like it!

Warm Companion Lipstick

The frosted finish of this lipstick made it REALLY hard to photograph… Sorry this photo turned out so fuzzy!

Warm Companion (Frost):   Warm Companion is a “beige with gold pearl” and has a Frost finish. It’s a light, warm nude-ish gold, but there’s not much true color there. It’s kind of just a frosty golden shimmer… The cool thing is that you can apply this sheer, or even layer it over a liner or another lipstick, or you can layer this on itself for a mostly opaque type of coverage. It wore for about 4 hours on me before any noticeable fading occurred. It went on evenly but felt a little dry. If you apply Warm Companion heavily, you will have to blend it out with a brush to make it even… If you don’t, the shimmer seems to clump up and cause a patchy looking appearance, especially if your lips are rough or chapped. Since this lipstick is a sheer type of color, you can use ANY liner with this to make it look how you want!
