MAC Apres Chic – Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm: Photos, Swatches and Reviews

MAC has come up with a brand new formula of tinted lip moisturizer that I am LOVING right now! Drumroll please… It’s Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm! It’s a new addition to the Mineralize line, and is super moisturizing and nourishing, just like all of the Mineralize skincare products are. To me, these are somewhere between skincare and makeup because they’re so packed with moisture and go on somewhat sheer.

I’m so obsessed with these that I bought a few backups and I always have one in my purse. I actually took these with me on a mini-vacation this past weekend where I was out in cold weather hiking and even out on a boat whale watching for about 4 hours. I applied one of the Mineralize Tinted Lip Balms before I went out, when I left the hotel, and it lasted the WHOLE TIME (grand total of about 6 hours)! I was amazed! My lips stayed moist and smooth the whole time and I’m convinced that these lip balms are a miracle product. No gloss or moisturizer has even given me that kind of result, so I’m really hoping that MAC will keep these around!

Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm TipWhen I first heard of these lip balms I was thinking “oh this is just another sheer lip balm, it’s not going to the that special”, but I was SO wrong! These last 4-6 hours, even though they’re super moisturizing and lightweight. They aren’t very sticky at all… They really soak into the lip not long after you apply them, but the color and glossy effect lasts a while. These can all be worn on their own, layered over a liner for more color and coverage (this also makes the gloss last longer, but it won’t soak in to much), or you can layer it over a lipstick (which also makes the lip balm last longer, but allows it to soak in a bit because it’s not such a dry base). Bottom line is these are a fantastic new product and definitely worth checking out, especially now that it’s winter and your lips could use some extra TLC.

Mineralize Tinted Lip Balms are unfortunately limited edition, but are available now at any MAC store, counter, or online at www.maccosmetics.com. All of these are in stock online, but I know they were selling pretty quickly at the store where I work! They contain 10ml / .33fl oz of product and sell for $19.50. They’re packaged in a soft squeeze tube with a soft, angled tip that makes it easy to apply. The material the packages are made out of has the same glowy, shimmery look that other Mineralize skincare products do, but the lip balm itself is not that shimmery… Some actually have no shimmer at all!

Nice & Simple:   Nice & Simple is a “bronzy gold with multidimensional pearl”. It’s a sheer, peachy golden color with warm golden shimmer. None of these apply opaquely, but Nice & Simple is a little sheer compared to the other Mineralize Tinted Lip Balms. However, this one has the most shimmer out of all of them. It looks nice over most lipsticks because it adds a type of warmth and glow that I’ve never seen with any kind of true lipgloss. It’s also lovely by itself because it intensifies and warms up your natural lip color.

Pure & Tender Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm

Pure & Tender Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm on LipsPure & Tender:    Pure & Tender is a “plumy creamy nude” with no noticeable shimmer. In the tube, it looks brighter than it does on the lips. When applied, it adds a warm, peachy-pink shine, but there’s not much color payoff. It’s kind of like a “your lips but better” type of lip balm. As plain as it sounds, this is actually the one I’ve used the most! I love it by itself or over pretty much any lipstick. The color is something that is probably easily duped, but the quality is much better than any gloss or balm I’ve tried.

Rosy Romance Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm

Rosy Romance Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm on LipsRosy Romance:   Rosy Romance is a “bluish plum with subtle pink pearl” and a hint of very fine shimmer. To me, this is a medium-dark pink with some cool undertones and a fine, warm pink shimmer. Because of that shimmer, it makes the lip balm appear much warmer when applied to the lips. It has really good color payoff and coverage for being such a lightweight lip moisturizer and is the darkest, most pigmented of all of the Mineralize Tinted Lip Balms. On my lips, it deepened the  natural color of them considerably while adding a warm, pink, shimmery glow as well. It’s great by itself and looks fantastic if you dab a little bit on over Apres Chic lipstick.

Slightly Nude Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm

Eww, super fuzzy picture… I’ll try to retake this one. So sorry!

Slightly Nude:   Slightly Nude is a “nudey coral with subtle pink pearl”… It’s a warm, light golden coral with a creamy pink, pearly shimmer. It’s not as sheer as some of the other Mineralize Tinted Lip Balms in this collection, but it’s not opaque either. The color payoff is decent and it amps up the color of my lips while also adding a gorgeous, gilded coral glow. I like this one worn alone or layered over coral, pink, or nude lipsticks.

Stay Warm! Mineralize Tinted Lip Balm

Stay Warm! Mineralize Tinted Lip Bam on LipsStay Warm!:   Stay Warm! is a “creamy light pink” with a creamy finish and no shimmer. It’s a light, warm peachy pink that has a thick, milky type of opacity to it and good coverage. Since it’s so light and I have rather pigmented lips, it took a little spreading around to get this to look even… Fortunately, the squishy angled tip of the tube makes it easy to do that! It’s great alone or layered over any pink or nude lipstick.

  1. The tinted lip balm is so excellent! It helps me to avoid having the chapped lips during the cold and dry winter days.
