MAC Fashion Sets – Ablaze Lip Pencil, Lipstick and Lipglass: Photos, Swatches and Reviews

MAC Fashion Sets are bold brights with a modern edge… They’re coordinating sets of products that include a Lip Pencil, Lipstick, Lipglass, Nail Lacquer, and Eye Shadow that are all the same color. I only purchased the lip products, so there will only be reviews and photos for those… Sorry!

Ablaze Lip Set

Not everyone wants to be totally match-matchy but it’s fun to do monochromatic looks sometimes… It’s definitely not considered a “makeup don’t” any more!

My favorite part of Fashion Sets are the lip products, since it’s always nice to have a coordinating liner, lipstick and gloss… I do like the Eye Shadows and Nail Lacquers too, I just didn’t think it was necessary to add to them to my collection or kit.

Since the Eye Shadows and Nail Lacquers are totally different products and textures than lippies, they aren’t perfect matches to them… That said, they don’t have to be a perfect match for a monochromatic look to work. They’re all high quality and nicely pigmented so they work well on their own and get a big thumbs up from me!

All three of these lip products are limited edition, although I am hoping these return as permanent like some of the products from Fashion Sets of 2012 did. Fashion Sets are available online now at www.maccosmetics.com and will be for sale at MAC stores and counters on Thursday, April 4th. Each one of these products sells for the usual $15. MAC Lipsticks and Tinted Lipglasses are lightly vanilla scented but have no flavor.

Ablaze Lipstick

Ablaze Lipstick (Matte):   Ablaze Lipstick is a “bright apricot cream” with a Matte finish. It’s a medium-dark, rich, warm, pinkish coral with a matte texture that has a soft sheen to it at first, though the sheen begins to fade after the first hour or two of wear.

Like other Matte finish lipsticks from MAC, I got nearly 6 hours of wear with Ablaze. It gave me completely opaque coverage and great color payoff with very little product applied. This lipstick glided on smoothly, even though it’s a Matte, and didn’t feel drying. Since Matte Lipsticks tend to emphasize any dry or chapped areas of the lips, they look best when applied over a primer like Prep + Prime Lip (which will extend the wear time as well) or a lightweight moisturizer.

The most similar lipstick I can think of would be MAC’s Watch Me Simmer, from Shop MAC, Cook MAC that came out last spring/summer… Watch Me Simmer is more pink, not as bright, and has an Amplified finish which is creamier and has more of a sheen.

Ablaze Lipstick is limited edition, contains 3 g / 0.1 US oz of product and costs $15.

Ablaze Lipglass

Ablaze Tinted Lipglass:   This Lipglass is described as a “bright orange cream” with a hint of shimmer. It’s a medium, warm toned coral-ish orange with golden-coral shimmer. It applies very evenly with no patchiness and has great color payoff. It’s NEARLY opaque but not 100%.

Ablaze Lipglass is certainly more orange than the Lipstick is, but they work well together on their own and don’t NEED to be layered… You can also use this Lipglass layered over the Lip Pencil, which will make it wear longer (I got around 4 hours of wear alone)… Ablaze Lip Pencil is actually a closer match to the Lipglass.

As for dupes, Morange is creamier, more opaque and more orange. Eclectic Edge, which came out with the Styleseeker collection last fall, is close but has a lot more shimmer and is a brighter orange with less coral tones.

Ablaze Lipglass is limited edition, contains 4.8 g / 0.17 US oz of product and sells for $15.

Ablaze Lip Pencil

Ablaze Lip Pencil:   Ablaze Lip Pencil is a “bright apricot” with a matte finish. It’s a bright, medium orange that I don’t see any apricot to at all! There is more of a soft coral tone than apricot.

Like other MAC Lip Pencils, I get around 6 hours of wear before any fading occurs. These type of lip liners have a somewhat dry texture but they still apply smoothly, especially if you use it over Prep + Prime Lip, which also extends the wear time.

At first glance, this Lip Pencil looks like Entertain Me but Ablaze isn’t as much of a true orange and is lighter. Lasting Sensation Lip Pencil is also similar but Ablaze is darker and less coral. What A Blast Pro Longwear Lip Pencil is also close but looks much more bold and is a darker orange when applied.

This Lip Pencil is limited edition, contains 1.45 g / 0.5 US oz of product and costs $15.
