MAC Fashion Sets – Embrace Me Lip Pencil, Lipstick and Lipglass: Photos, Swatches and Reviews

MAC Fashion Sets are bold brights with a modern edge… They’re coordinating sets of products that include a Lip Pencil, Lipstick, Lipglass, Nail Lacquer, and Eye Shadow that are all the same color. I only purchased the lip products, so there will only be reviews and photos for those… Sorry!

Embrace Me Lip Set

Not everyone wants to be totally match-matchy but it’s fun to do monochromatic looks sometimes… It’s definitely not considered a “makeup don’t” any more!

My favorite part of Fashion Sets are the lip products, since it’s always nice to have a coordinating liner, lipstick and gloss… I do like the Eye Shadows and Nail Lacquers too, I just didn’t think it was necessary to add to them to my collection or kit.

Since the Eye Shadows and Nail Lacquers are totally different products and textures than lippies, they aren’t perfect matches to them… That said, they don’t have to be a perfect match for a monochromatic look to work. They’re all high quality and nicely pigmented so they work well on their own and get a big thumbs up from me!

All three of these lip products are limited edition, although I am hoping these return as permanent like some of the products from Fashion Sets of 2012 did. Fashion Sets are available online now atwww.maccosmetics.com and will be for sale at MAC stores and counters on Thursday, April 4th. Each one of these products sells for the usual $15. MAC Lipsticks and Tinted Lipglasses are lightly vanilla scented but have no flavor.

Embrace Me Lipstick

Embrace Me Lipstick applied over Prep + Prime Lip.

Embrace Me Lipstick (Matte):   This lipstick is a “bright fuchsia cream” with a Matte finish. It’s a bright, medium-dark, hot pink fuchsia with a cool, blue undertone. On my lips it appears cooler toned than it is in the tube. Like many other recent Matte finish Lipsticks from MAC, this has a slight sheen that fades after about the first hour of wear, although it’s not as much of a sheen as the other Matte Lipsticks in this collection.

Embrace Me wore for a solid 6 hours on me and left a stain for over another hour after I removed it! It has totally opaque coverage and wonderful color payoff. The texture is slightly drier than the other Fashion Sets Lipsticks so it didn’t apply as smoothly as the rest of them did. That said, I didn’t find Embrace Me to be drying to my lips at all. Since this is a Matte finish lipstick, I recommend priming or lightly moisturizing your lips prior to applying this lipstick if you have any dry or chapped areas, as it will emphasize them. My favorite product is Prep + Prime Lip from MAC… It also extends the wear time.

There are several MAC Lipsticks similar to Embrace Me, but none are a perfect dupe… The closest ones would be Daddy’s Little Girl, from the recent Archie’s Girls collection, but it’s lighter and seems to have more purple in it as well as a Satin finish, so it’s much shinier. Dear Diary Pro Longwear Lipcreme Lipstick, from the Beth Ditto collection, is nearly a perfect match but seems a little brighter and cooler. Pink Pigeon, from the Strength and Iris Apfel collections, is darker but more neon and has more sheen to it. If you missed out on any of those and can’t get your paws on Embrace Me, there is always Candy Yum Yum, which is permanent so it’s available at all times… However, it’s a bit lighter, cooler, and has more of a neon look.

Embrace Me Lipstick is limited edition, contains 3 g / 0.1 US oz of product and costs $15.

Embrace Me Lipglass

Embrace Me Lipglass:   This Tinted Lipglass is also a “bright fuchsia cream” with shimmer. It’s a slightly cool toned, bright, medium, hot fuchsia pink with a very fine, iridescent type of fuchsia shimmer.

It’s more pinkish and warmer toned than the coordinating Lipstick but they look fantastic when layered. Like Ablaze, the Lip Pencil is actually a closer match to Embrace Me Lipglass than the Lipstick is. It applied opaque with good color payoff and gave me a little over 4 hours of wear time…. Embrace Me Lipglass went on evenly but felt a heavier than the other Fashion Sets Lipglasses, which is probably why it wore so well!

At first glance, I thought that Girl About Town Lipglass (which is permanent) would be a really good match, but Girl About Town is darker and more opaque… Although they look super close in the tube, they look totally different on the lips! Embrace Me Lipglass is truly unique!

Embrace Me Lipglass is limited edition, contains 4.8 g / 0.17 US oz of product and sells for $15.

Embrace Me Lip Pencil

Embrace Me Lip Pencil:   This is described as a “vivid pinkish fuchsia” and has a matte finish. It’s a medium, bright fuchsia with blue undertones.

I got about 7 hours of wear with this Lip Pencil before it started to fade at all and like Embrace Me Lipstick, it left a stain for an additional hour or more. As with other MAC Lip Pencils, it’s a dry type of liner, so it glides on most easily and wears best when applied over something like Prep + Prime Lip. It’s not so dry that it tugs, though, so it will still apply well even by itself.

Embrace Me Lip Pencil probably looks pretty familiar to you by now… It’s been released in the past with numerous collections including Beth Ditto, Tour de Fabulous, Iris Apfel, and most recently with the Strength collection in December of 2012. Hopefully they just keep it around and make it permanent this time! There really aren’t any dupes for Embrace Me… More To Love Pro Longwear Lip Pencil (which is permanent) is the only other hot pink lip liner that MAC has to offer, but it’s duller, darker and not as cool toned.

This Lip Pencil is limited edition, contains 1.45 g / 0.5 US oz of product and costs $15.
