MAC Fashion Sets are bold brights with a modern edge… They’re coordinating sets of products that include a Lip Pencil, Lipstick, Lipglass, Nail Lacquer, and Eye Shadow that are all the same color. I only purchased the lip products, so there will only be reviews and photos for those… Sorry!
The Heroine Lipstick pictured in this post is from a previous collection release so it’s been used… Sorry it looks a little big flattened and smudgy!
Not everyone wants to be totally match-matchy but it’s fun to do monochromatic looks sometimes… It’s definitely not considered a “makeup don’t” any more!
My favorite part of Fashion Sets are the lip products, since it’s always nice to have a coordinating liner, lipstick and gloss… I do like the Eye Shadows and Nail Lacquers too, I just didn’t think it was necessary to add to them to my collection or kit.
Since the Eye Shadows and Nail Lacquers are totally different products and textures than lippies, they aren’t perfect matches to them… That said, they don’t have to be a perfect match for a monochromatic look to work. They’re all high quality and nicely pigmented so they work well on their own and get a big thumbs up from me!
All three of these lip products are limited edition, although I am hoping these return as permanent like some of the products from Fashion Sets of 2012 did. Fashion Sets are available online now atwww.maccosmetics.com and will be for sale at MAC stores and counters on Thursday, April 4th. Each one of these products sells for the usual $15. MAC Lipsticks and Tinted Lipglasses are lightly vanilla scented but have no flavor.
Heroine Lipstick (Matte): Heroine Lipstick is described as a “bright violet/purple” with a Matte finish. It’s a bold medium-dark, warm toned purple. Even though it’s a Matte finish Lipstick, it has a soft sheen to it that lasts a little over an hour after it’s applied. If this lipstick looks familiar to you, it’s because it was also released around this time last year with the Reel Sexy collection.
Heroine wears for a little over 6 hours on me and like Embrace Me, leaves a bit of a stain even after it’s worn off or has been removed. It gives opaque coverage and top notch color payoff. Heroine feels soft and glides on easily without feeling the least bit dry. As with all Matte Lipsticks, I suggest applying it over a primer, like Prep + Prime Lip or a lightweight moisturizer so it won’t emphasize any dry or chapped areas you may have on your lips.
If you’re looking for a dupe of Heroine, the closest I can think of would be MAC’s Violetta, which is permanent at PRO stores and online…However, Violetta is considerably more iridescent and shimmery. Other than that, the color is very similar. Strong Woman from the Strength collection is another nice MAC purple, but it’s much darker and more blue based. Seductive Intent Mattene Lipstick from the Taste Temptation collection is also similar but pinker and brighter. Seductive Intent also has a considerably creamier texture and more of a sheen.
Heroine Lipstick is limited edition, contains 3 g / 0.1 US oz of product and costs $15. As far as I know, this one sold out online almost immediately, so be prepared to show up early at your local counter or store if you want to pick up this lipstick! You may want to call ahead or stop by and ask if they can put it on hold for you.

Heroine Lipglass: This Tinted Lipglass is described as a “bright purple cream” and has a soft iridescent shimmer. It’s a somewhat warm, pinkish toned, medium purple with fine, iridescent pinkish-purple shimmer.
Like most other MAC Lipglasses, Heroine gave me about 4 hours of wear before it began to fade. It’s only semi-opaque but has good color payoff. The pinker and more naturally pigmented your lips are, the brighter this Lipglass will look. The color isn’t really a perfect match to the Lipstick or Lip Pencil… It definitely adds something special to the look when layered over the Lipstick, but it’s a pretty Lipglass however you choose to wear it.
I honestly can’t think of a good dupe for this Lipglass… I’m sitting here digging through my kit but I just can’t find anything close! There are a few that look similar in the tube, like Revenge Is Sweet from Taste Temptations, but Heroine is MUCH darker on the lips!

Heroine Lip Pencil: Heroine Lip Pencil is described as a “bright purple” with a matte finish. It’s a medium-dark purple with warm, reddish undertones… It’s very very similar to the coordinating Lipstick!
I got fantastic color payoff with this Lip Pencil and over 6 hours of wear before it started to fade away. Even after it faded there was a bit of a stain left that lasted another hour or more. This Lip Pencil felt softer than many other MAC Lip Pencils so it applied easily with no tugging. Although it has a smoother texture, I still suggest applying this over something like Prep + Prime Lip, which will make it go on like it’s made of silk as well as make this Lip Pencil wear longer.
Magenta Lip Pencil would be the closest dupe to this, but it’s still way off! Magenta is, well, a magenta color and is brighter and more pinkish.
Heroine Lip Pencil is limited edition, contains 1.45 g / 0.5 US oz of product and costs $15.
