MAC Fashion Sets – Lip Pencils: Photos, Swatches and Reviews

MAC’s Fashion Sets collection is full of bright, bold products that all share the same name and color. These Lip Pencils have Lipsticks, Lipglasses, Eye Shadows, and Nail Lacquers that coordinate with them for a fun, monochromatic look.

Fashion Sets Lip Pencils

MAC Lip Pencils have a somewhat dry type of formula that wears for around 6 hours or more and is intensely pigmented. Although they can feel dry at times, they still apply smoothly! If you want these to apply as smoothly as possibly, I suggest starting off with something like Prep + Prime Lip… That will also make these wear longer. All of these Lip Pencils work perfectly with their coordinating Lipsticks and Lipglasses and will make those products wear longer and look more defined if layered underneath… Lip Pencils are a must have with a bold lip, so if you plan on getting the Lipsticks, you should definitely pick up these Lip Pencils too!

Fashion Sets Lip Pencils are limited edition,  available online now at www.maccosmetics.com and will be for sale at MAC stores and counters on Thursday, April 4th. Each one of these sells for the usual $15 and contains 1.45 g / 0.5 US oz of product.

Ablaze Lip Pencil

Ablaze:   Ablaze Lip Pencil is a “bright apricot” with a matte finish. It’s a bright, medium orange that I don’t see any apricot to at all! There is more of a soft coral tone than apricot.

Like other MAC Lip Pencils, I get around 6 hours of wear before any fading occurs. These type of lip liners have a somewhat dry texture that helps them wear longer and appear extra pigmented, but they still apply smoothly.

At first glance, this Lip Pencil looks like Entertain Me but Ablaze isn’t as much of a true orange and is lighter. Lasting Sensation Lip Pencil is also similar but Ablaze is darker and less coral. What A Blast Pro Longwear Lip Pencil is also close but looks much more bold and is a darker orange when applied.

Embrace Me Lip Pencil

Embrace Me:   This is described as a “vivid pinkish fuchsia” and has a matte finish. It’s a medium, bright fuchsia with blue undertones.

I got about 7 hours of wear with this Lip Pencil before it started to fade at all and like Embrace Me Lipstick, it left a stain for an additional hour or more. As with other MAC Lip Pencils, it’s a dry type of liner but it’s not so dry that it tugs.

Embrace Me Lip Pencil probably looks pretty familiar to you by now… It’s been released in the past with numerous collections including Beth Ditto, Tour de Fabulous, Iris Apfel, and most recently with the Strength collection in December of 2012. Hopefully they just keep it around and make it permanent this time! There really aren’t any dupes for Embrace Me… More To Love Pro Longwear Lip Pencil (which is permanent) is the only other hot pink lip liner that MAC has to offer, but it’s duller, darker and not as cool toned.

Heroine Lip Pencil

Heroine:   Heroine Lip Pencil is described as a “bright purple” with a matte finish. It’s a medium-dark purple with warm, reddish undertones… It’s very very similar to the coordinating Lipstick!

I got fantastic color payoff with this Lip Pencil and over 6 hours of wear before it started to fade away. Even after it faded there was a bit of a stain left that lasted another hour or more. This Lip Pencil felt softer than many other MAC Lip Pencils so it applied easily with no tugging.

Magenta Lip Pencil would be the closest dupe to this, but it’s still way off! Magenta is, well, a magenta color and is brighter and more pinkish.

Silly Lip Pencil

Silly:   This Lip Pencil is a “bright pink” with a matte finish. It’s an absolute perfect match to the Lipstick in every way… Including in the way that it looks warmer toned than it really is! On the lips it’s an ever so slightly cool toned, medium bright pink.

This Lip Pencil had a drier texture than the others in the Fashion Sets collection so it didn’t apply all that smoothly… It skipped and tugged a bit, but that’s not uncommon with many types of lip liners. You do want some degree of dryness so they wear well! It had great color payoff and wore for 7 hours before it began to fade, so that made up for the drier texture. I did apply this over Prep + Prime Lip, which may have extended the wear time by an hour or so… It also helped it apply smoothly with no tugging.

Silly is really different from any Lip Pencil that MAC has, either permanent or limited edition, so there aren’t any dupes that I can think of… If I find one I’ll be sure to post it!
