MAC Fashion Sets – Lipglasses: Photos, Swatches and Reviews

MAC released four new Lipglasses with the Fashion Sets collection… These all coordinate with Lipsticks, Lip Pencils, Eye Shadows, and Nail Lacquers of the same names. All of these colors are bright and unique, so this is a great collection that’s definitely worth checking out!

MAC Lipglasses typically give me about 4 hours of wear before I need to touch up. They’re a somewhat thick, slightly sticky formula, but the heavy stickiness isn’t so noticeable after the Lipglass warms up and melts onto your lips a little bit. The texture of MAC Lipglass is very creamy, giving great color payoff and coverage. These, like other MAC Lipglasses, have a subtle vanilla scent but no taste.

All of the Fashion Sets Lipglasses are limited edition. This collection is available online now at www.maccosmetics.com and will be for sale at MAC stores and counters on Thursday, April 4th. Each one of these products sells for the usual $15 and contain 4.8 g / 0.17 US oz of product.

Ablaze Lipglass

Ablaze:   This Lipglass is described as a “bright orange cream” with a hint of shimmer. It’s a medium, warm toned coral-ish orange with golden-coral shimmer. It applies very evenly with no patchiness and has great color payoff. It’s NEARLY opaque but not 100%.

Ablaze Lipglass is certainly more orange than the Lipstick is, but they work well together on their own and don’t NEED to be layered… You can also use this Lipglass layered over the Lip Pencil, which will make it wear longer (I got around 4 hours of wear alone)… Ablaze Lip Pencil is actually a closer match to the Lipglass.

As for dupes, Morange is creamier, more opaque and more orange. Eclectic Edge, which came out with the Styleseeker collection last fall, is close but has a lot more shimmer and is a brighter orange with less coral tones.

Embrace Me Lipglass

Embrace Me:   This Tinted Lipglass is also a “bright fuchsia cream” with shimmer. It’s a slightly cool toned, bright, medium, hot fuchsia pink with a very fine, iridescent type of fuchsia shimmer.

It’s more pinkish and warmer toned than the coordinating Lipstick but they look fantastic when layered. Like Ablaze, the Lip Pencil is actually a closer match to Embrace Me Lipglass than the Lipstick is. It applied opaque with good color payoff and gave me a little over 4 hours of wear time…. Embrace Me Lipglass went on evenly but felt a heavier than the other Fashion Sets Lipglasses, which is probably why it wore so well!

At first glance, I thought that Girl About Town Lipglass (which is permanent) would be a really good match, but Girl About Town is darker and more opaque… Although they look super close in the tube, they look totally different on the lips! Embrace Me Lipglass is truly unique!

Heroine Lipglass

Heroine:   This Tinted Lipglass is described as a “bright purple cream” and has a soft iridescent shimmer. It’s a somewhat warm, pinkish toned, medium purple with fine, iridescent pinkish-purple shimmer.

Like most other MAC Lipglasses, Heroine gave me about 4 hours of wear before it began to fade. It’s only semi-opaque but has good color payoff. The pinker and more naturally pigmented your lips are, the brighter this Lipglass will look. The color isn’t really a perfect match to the Lipstick or Lip Pencil… It definitely adds something special to the look when layered over the Lipstick, but it’s a pretty Lipglass however you choose to wear it.

I honestly can’t think of a good dupe for this Lipglass… I’m sitting here digging through my kit but I just can’t find anything close! There are a few that look similar in the tube, like Revenge Is Sweet from Taste Temptations, but Heroine is MUCH darker on the lips!

Silly Lipglass

Silly:   This Tinted Lipglass is described as a “bright pink cream” with no shimmer. It’s a medium, bright, creamy pink that looks slightly cool toned and blue-based once applied to the lips, although it looks warmer toned or at least more neutral in the tube. It’s a tiny bit cooler toned than the coordinating Lipstick is, but MAC matched these two products really well!

Silly is mostly opaque and gives fantastic color payoff. It feels thicker and creamier than many other Lipglasses so it applies easily and wears well… It wore for just over 4 hours on me before it started to fade. The only issue I had with this Lipglass is that it settled into the lines on my lips a tiny bit when I applied it without a primer, so I would definitely suggest using Prep + Prime Lip before you put on this Lipglass.

I can’t think of many Lipglasses that look similar to Silly… Pink Nouveau would probably be the closest but it’s more blue based/cool toned and is lighter and brighter.
