MAC RiRi Hearts MAC – Lipsticks: Photos, Swatches and Reviews

The Summer part of the RiRi Hearts MAC collection was released in mid June 2013 and featured several items, including RiRi Woo lipstick, two new lipsticks, a blush/bronzer, and lustre drops. In this review I’ll only be covering the lipsticks but those seem to be the most popular items from this collection anyway!

Unfortunately these are available online only and are all sold out at the moment, but they seem to pop up for sale again from time to time, so keep checking here: www.maccosmetics.com. Since these are all limited, but close to colors that are part of the permanent range of MAC Lipsticks, I’ll also be including dupes along with images of them side by side so maybe you can find something that’s close enough until you can get your paws on the real thing!

Heaux, RiRi Boy, RiRi Woo

Heaux, RiRi Boy, RiRi Woo

All three of the lipsticks in this collection were limited edition but they do seem to pop up for sale again from time to time on the MAC website, as I mentioned earlier. As far as I know RiRi Woo will make another appearance in an upcoming RiRi collection as well.

The RiRi Hearts MAC lipsticks all have the Retro Matte formula, so they’re super pigmented, have totally opaque coverage and amazing color payoff, and give you a true matte finish… They do seem to have a soft, matte type of sheen for about the first hour or two of wear, but that fades after a bit. Typically, I get about 6-8 hours of wear with Retro Matte lipsticks, and longer with a liner and primer (like Prep + Prime Lip) underneath. Using Prep + Prime Lip before applying these lipsticks also helps with hiding any dry or chapped areas on the lips, which can be emphasized by the Retro Matte formula. Another feature of these lipsticks is the RiRi signature that’s molded into the lipstick itself.

When these limited edition lipsticks are available, they cost the same as other MAC Lipsticks, selling for $15. Also like all MAC Lipsticks, these have a faint vanilla scent but no taste and contain 3g / 0.1 US oz of product.

Heaux

Heaux:   This is a “matte berry” with a true Retro Matte finish… It’s a dark, warm, reddish-berry color with a matte finish. Coverage was completely opaque with little lipstick applied and color payoff was also fantastic… The only thing is that it doesn’t look quite as deep as it does in the tube. Beet Lip Pencil looks really nice with Heaux.

Dupes:   There aren’t many lipsticks that are super close to Heaux… Love Goddess from the Marilyn Monroe collection is similar, but is brighter and was, unfortunately, limited edition. The closest thing that’s permanent is Rebel… If you want it to be more matte, you just have to put a little bit of translucent setting powder over it! In the tube they look incredibly different, but on, they’re much more similar.

RiRi BOY

RiRi Boy:   This lipstick is a “vivid lavender” with a Retro Matte finish. It’s a medium-dark, slightly cool toned, bold lavender with a hint of pink undertones. It’s a true matte, like the others in this collection. It looks darker in the tube than it does when applied, but the color payoff is great! Coverage is also 100% opaque. I like using Heroine Lip Pencil with this… If you didn’t get a chance to get that one, Magenta also works and will brighten it up a bit.

Dupes:   The closest dupe for this is Up The Amp lipstick, which is permanent! Up The Amp is shinier, but mattifies a little after applying it, so it’s pretty hard to tell the difference once it’s on the lips. Heroine is also similar, but darker and was, unfortunately, limited edition.

RiRi WOO

RiRi Woo on Lips

RiRi Woo:   RiRi Woo is a medium-dark, true cool toned/blue based red with a Retro Matte finish. It’s slightly darker than Ruby Woo and has a cooler, more blue toned base to it. It gives totally opaque coverage and amazing color payoff with only one swipe of product. Cherry Lip Pencil works perfectly with this lipstick.

Overall Rating:   5 / 5

Dupes:   Of course Ruby Woo is the best dupe for this lipstick, and since it’s permanent, you never have to worry about not being able to find it! Ruby Woo is only a tiny, tiny bit lighter and less bold, but otherwise is spot on!
