MAC RiRi Hearts MAC Fall 2013 – Pro Longwear Lip Pencils: Photos, Swatches and Reviews

MAC released two new Pro Longwear Lip Pencils with this collection that match some of the Lipsticks also part of RiRi Hearts MAC. I’m SO glad these are Pro Longwear! Not only do I think they’re such great quality, they work perfectly with Matte and Retro Matte Lipsticks!

Like the rest of the products in this collection, these have the special pink packaging and boxes, but they’re like all the other Pro Longwear Lip Pencils on the inside!

Pro Longwear Lip Pencils are all highly pigmented lip pencils that are surprisingly creamy for a long wearing formula, gliding on without any tugging or pulling at the lips. Once these set, they feel a bit more dry but won’t budge or transfer, wearing for around 6-8 hours. Since both of these are a bright and dark, they tend to leave behind a bit of a stain but it’s easily removed with a wipe or remover oil. If you feel like these don’t glide on easily enough, or if you want to fill in with them, I suggest applying something like MAC’s Prep + Prime Lip first, giving it a smooth base to glide over.

Both of these Pro Longwear Lip Pencils are limited edition and came out at counter today, although they were released online earlier this week and at freestanding stores last Thursday. As far as I know, they’re sold out online at probably at a lot of stores, but maybe you can still grab them at your local counter! Because these have special packaging, they cost $21.50 compared to the typical $19.50, although they contain the same 1.2 g / 0.04 US oz of product.

RiRi Woo:   This Pro Longwear Lip Pencil is a “cool red cream” with a creamy, yet matte finish. It’s a medium to medium-dark, cool, blue based red that’s a perfect match for the Lipstick that shares the same name. It had the usual creamy texture, like other Pro Longwear Lip Pencils and glided on giving perfect color payoff and full coverage. I got 6-8 hours of wear with this before I had to touch up.

Even though this is made for RiRi Woo, it works well with any blue based red… Ruby Woo and Russian Red are other good Lipsticks to pair up with this liner.

Dupes:   Cherry Lip Pencil from MAC is going to be the closest match to this pencil, even though it isn’t Pro Longwear. If you want a Pro Longwear, try Kiss Me Quick… That one is a tiny bit darker but it’s very close!

Talk That Talk:   This pencil is a “dark plum cream” with a creamy matte finish. It’s a deep, slightly warm toned plum. Like most Pro Longwear Lip Pencils, this felt smooth and creamy, applying easily and giving me perfect color payoff and great coverage. I got about 7 hours of wear before this liner started to fade. It is a bit darker than the Lipstick with the same name, so if the Lipstick doesn’t give you enough color payoff, I suggest layering Talk That Talk Pro Longwear Pencil underneath!

Since this liner is such a beautiful, dark plum, you can use it with tons of Lipsticks… Some of my favorites to pair this up with are Diva, Viva Glam I, Media, Cyber, and Rebel. You can also try it with lighter and brighter colors for a vampy ombre look.

Dupes:   Talk That Talk is certainly one of a kind as far as Pro Longwear Lip Pencils go, but Currant, Vino, and Nightmoth Lip Pencils are pretty close, with Nightmoth being the best dupe I’ve tried. So don’t worry if you can’t get Talk That Talk!
