MAC – Magnetic Nude – Morning Rose Lipstick: Photos, Swatches and Review

There were four lipsticks released with the Magnetic Nude collection, however, I only purchased two. One of them is Morning Rose, which is what I will be reviewing in this post. I also picked up Close Contact. The other lipsticks are gorgeous but I didn’t get them because I either have something similar or it just wasn’t something I needed in my personal or professional kit.

Morning Rose Lipstick has a Cremesheen finish, so it’s fairly well pigmented, as well as smooth and somewhat glossy. Cremesheen lipsticks wear well for about 4-5 hours before fading and have good color payoff. Because this is a frostier type of Cremesheen, you it may emphasize chapped areas on the lips, but that can be solved by applying Prep + Prime Lip first… Prep + Prime Lip will also increase the wear time of any lipstick. Of course you may want to use a liner too… This will not only define the lip and add contrast if you like, it will also keep the lipstick in place longer, increasing the wear time. Applying a liner first will prevent smudging or feathering outside the natural lip line as well.

The lipsticks from the Magnetic Nude collection are available now and were released on Thursday, December 26th. These lipsticks can be purchased online at www.maccosmetics.com or at any store or counter. They sell for the usual $15 and contain 3 g / 0.1 US oz of product. MAC lipsticks have a subtle vanilla scent but no taste.

Morning Rose:   This lipstick is a “soft cool rose” with a Cremesheen finish… It’s a somewhat warm toned, medium rosy pink with a warm, golden pearly type of sheen. Color payoff is true to the color that the lipstick is in the tube. Coverage is good, though not completely opaque but that’s normal with Cremesheens. The texture is smooth, however the pearly Cremesheens do feel slightly drier than the normal formula does. Without a liner, I got around 4 hours of wear with Morning Rose. With a liner, I got closer to 6 hours of wear before I noticed any fading.

Liners:   My favorite liner to use with Morning Rose is In Anticipation Pro Longwear Lip Pencil… It will dramatically increase the wear time too, since it’s the Pro Longwear formula. Other options for Lip Pencils are Dervish, Soar, or even Beet.

Dupes:   The closest permanent dupes are Lovelorn, though it lacks that golden pearly sheen. Sunny Seoul is also close, but lighter. For a limited edition dupe, Venus lipstick from the Heavenly Creatures collection is a nearly perfect match.
