MAC – A Fantasy of Flowers – Fluidlines: Photos, Swatches and Reviews

MAC’s A Fantasy of Flowers collection is full of bright, beautiful colors that are perfect for Spring. It was released on Thursday, February 6th… I apologize for just now getting these posts up but I’ve been working a lot! The bonus of that is that I got to play around with these products a lot before writing my reviews… The down side is that they may or may not be sold out, especially these Fluidlines. These are so unique and bright that they’re rare little gems in MAC’s world of eyeliner.

A Fantasy of Flowers is a big collection… It actually has two parts with separate displayers at counter, with one being green and displaying the more peachy and neutral colors, and one being pink and displaying the more pink and violet shades. It’s pretty obvious which displayer these two Fluidlines will be sitting one once you see them! They’re bright and intense, which is a perfect counterpart to the lighter, softer colors of the lip and cheek products and even the Mineralize Eye Shadows in this collection. These are perfect if you want a bolder pop of color somewhere!

MAC Fluidlines are an “Ultra-smooth, gel formula that provides the precision of a liquid liner with a silkier, softer finish”. They’re a very smooth, easy to apply formula that wears all day without smudging or flaking. I’m not a big fan of liquid liners but this gel formula is thicker and creamier than a liquid so I feel like it’s easier to control. While there aren’t waterproof, they are smudge-proof on most people (unless your eyes are excessively watery). I don’t necessarily recommend these for the waterline, but since these are creamy and don’t have any shimmer, you can always try it (though MAC does not suggest using Fluidlines on that area of the eye).

For application you can use so many different brushes… It really depends on personal preference. For a smaller line with more control and detail, a MAC 210 brush will work well… A MAC 209 is also suitable and is a bit bigger, so you’ll get a thicker line. My favorite brushes, especially for a winged look, are the MAC 263 or 266 angled brushes… Fluidlines are the perfect eye liner for a winged look, so I definitely recommend picking up a 263 brush if you’re into that look and get this liner!

Both of these are limited edition and are available now at www.maccosmetics.com as well as at MAC stores and counters. Unfortunately, since it’s been about a week since this collection came out, these are currently sold out online, as well as at some retail locations (sorry for getting this post up so late!). However, you may want to check back on MAC’s website since they restock limited launches sometimes. These sell for the usual $16 and contain 3 g / 0.1 US oz of product.

TIP:   When storing your Fluidlines in your makeup case or drawer, make sure they’re upside down with the label up! This will keep them from drying out.

TIP 2:   These can also be used as eye shadow bases, like Pro Longwear Paint Pots!

Phlox Garden

Phlox Garden

Phlox Garden:   This is a “vivid violet” with a creamy matte finish. It’s a medium-dark, slightly cool toned, purpley-plum violet that has no sheen at all. Color payoff is true to the color it is on the pot and Phlox Garden is totally opaque with little product applied. The texture is really smooth and applies easily. Wear time is also great… I got around 8 hours of wear before I noticed any fading or smudging.

Dupes:   I honestly can’t think of any! Phlox Garden is really unique!

Sassy Moss

Sassy Moss

Sassy Moss:   Sassy Moss is a “vivid green” that has a creamy finish with a soft pearl. It’s a medium, cool toned, bright minty green with a subtle golden pearl. The pearl effect isn’t as intense as it is in the pot but the color payoff in general is great. Coverage isn’t quite opaque unless you apply this pretty liberally, which is pretty easy to do with the right brush (like the ones I mentioned above). It has a super creamy texture that glides on. Wear time with Sassy Moss was actually better than Phlox Garden, lasting over 10 hours before fading or smudging.

Dupes:   Minted Eye Kohl is close, but is a pencil and lacks the golden pearl.
