Melt Blitzed Lipstick: Photos, Swatches and Review

It’s here at last! As you all know, I love Melt, so I was super excited to see that they released a new, bright, not-so-average shade of lipstick! I’m a fan of these type of colors because they’re unique and it’s just fun to wear something like this. Spring is here and Summer is creeping up on us, so there’s no better time to rock a bright teal lip and not think twice about it! I know some of you may look at this and be like “how the hell do I pull that off?” Well, you slap it on your pretty lips and tame it down with a liner until you’re comfortable enough to wear it with it’s full intensity! I’ll go over liners and combos you can use to switch things up later on in this review… If you have your own favorite combinations, feel free to leave them in the comments! I love to learn from everyone else and hear new ideas!

Melt is a 100% cruelty-free, mostly vegan brand, with Blitzed being one of their vegan lipsticks… I love this about the brand because it shows their dedication to pleasing a wide variety of customers, plus it proves how much they wuv animals! It’s not s HUGE cosmetics company (yet), but I like that… I feel like they really listen to what people want and strive to make awesome products without slacking on quality. I also just think it’s great to support small businesses, especially ones with such amazing products! Obviously, Melt is a company that thinks outside the box, and with founders Lora Arellano and Dana Bomar being make artists themselves, they come up with really creative colors that this industry needs! While Melt is a teeny bit more expensive than something like MAC (only by $3), it’s worth it because I PROMISE you will not find this kind of lipstick from any other brand!

PS: You can follow Melt (@meltcosmetics), Lora (@lora_arellano), and Dana (@danabomar) all on Instagram to see even more photos their products, plus their gorgeous faces and the faces of lots of other makeup artists that come up with epic looks using Melt’s goodies!

Okay, okay, I won’t keep you waiting any longer… I give you Blitzed!

The texture of Blitzed is the typical, creamy formula found with most of Melt’s ultra matte lipsticks. Because it’s uber matte, it can feel a wee bit dry for a brief moment when you first go to apply it, but letting it warm up on the lip by patting it on for a second will make it go on smoothly and easily. As with all Melt lipsticks, Blitzed is highly pigmented so there’s no need to layer the product to get phenomenal color payoff and opaque coverage. It has a very subtle, sweet scent, sort of like vanilla or macarons, but no flavor.

Since these are super matte, I do suggest priming your lip with something before application, especially if you tend to have dry lips anyway. This will hide any chapped areas, make the lipstick wear longer and make application much smoother without having to deal with tugging or dragging that may happen if your lips are dry. My favorite lip primer is Prep + Prime Lip from MAC… It’s a must have with any matte lipsticks! Also, because this lipstick is SO bright, I recommend using a brush, at least around the edges. It will make the line nice and precise! You can use a brush all over anyway, just to get everything as even as possible!

The tube for these lipsticks is simple and sleek… It’s a matte black tube with the cute, classy greige “melt.” logo on the cap, which I’ll photograph tomorrow… I guess I got a little giddy when I was taking these photos and forgot to take one of the tube and label. Oops! The box is a really pretty matte black with and has “melt” printed on it in glossy script, as well as their logo in the same greige color that’s on the tube.

Melt Blitzed Box

Melt lipsticks are available online at www.meltcosmetics.com. They sell for $19 each but they’re well worth it. They contain 3.2 g / 0.11 oz of product, compared to MAC’s lipsticks which are $16 for 3 g / 0.1 oz of product, so it’s not like they really cost any more than your average lipstick does, and in my opinion, you’re getting a better quality product (if you like ultra matte lipstick anyway) with the best pigmentation possible! Shipping is an additional $7 no matter how many lipsticks you purchase, so I suggest getting more than one lipstick, or even an eye shadow stack, to make it worth your money. Shipping is done through USPS I believe, and you get a tracking number so you can stalk your lipstick while it’s on the way to your doorstep. Since it’s priority mail, it gets to you very quickly! It only took about 3 days from the time I placed my order to the time I received my lipstick here in Oklahoma (it shipped from California).

For skin tone reference, I’m a NC15 in MAC terms.

Blitzed is a medium to medium dark (depending on how much you apply and what you wear it with), bright, teal green with cool undertones and an ultra matte finish. As I mentioned, the texture feels creamy and applies easily, but takes just a sec to warm up on the lip… Using a brush to apply it helps with this if you find it troublesome, which you probably won’t anyway, or you can just use a brush because it’s fun and makes you feel pro. Color payoff is exactly how it looks in the tube… Beautiful and bright AF! It’s so pigmented that you need VERY little product! Coverage is also great and is totally opaque and even. The few times I’ve worn Blitzed so far, I got around 6-7 hours of wear with no liner, and only noticed fading around the edges and center of the lip after about 4-5 hours. With a liner, I got over 8 hours of wear with no feathering or fading at all! You can also extend the wear time up to 8-10 hours if you use a liner AND set this by patting a tiny lil bit of translucent powder on your lips after applying Blitzed! That also makes it transfer-proof so you can smooch your main squeeze without worrying about it budging. Or, if you’re like me and don’t have anyone to smooch, you can at least drink your coffee and eat your pizza without worry about your lipstick going anywhere.

Liners:   This part was so fun for me… There are a TON of liner that you can use, depending on the look you want, but here are some of my favorites (all from MAC). Hi-Def Cyan (similar in color, slightly darker), Marine Ultra (a darker, more intense blue), and even Landscape Green (bold, medium green) Chromagraphic Pencils from PRO. You can also use Undercurrent Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner if you want something similar in color, but with glitter… It’s also a smidgen deeper, but looks SUPER pretty with Blitzed! Another more matte liner you can use that’s similar in color, if not a bit lighter and more minty, is Minted Eye Kohl. This liner will give you a defined look without much contrast between lipstick and liner. Tarnish Eye Kohl works too, if you want a darker, more forest green liner to create a ombre look with. Blooz Eye Kohl will also give you this look, but with a more navy blue tone. Two more that can work for a super dramatic look are Phone Number (dark, smoky gray) and Smolder (black) Eye Kohls, which sound a little intimidating, but look rad if you do enough blending!

Dupes:   I’m honestly not aware of any. Just go getcha some Blitzed.

TIP:   Blitzed looks really awesome if you put it in the center of the lip with Blow or DGAF around the edges of your lip, like a liner… You can even add a little bit of Bane just to the outer corners to create an even deeper, more dramatic ombre with a broader gradient of colors. Also, you can pat a bit of Blitzed in the center of the lip, blended into Space Cake around it, and Bane on the outer corners, or Space Cake in the center of the lip with Blitzed, then Blow of DGAF, then Bane if you reeeally wanna go cray and use as many Melt lipsticks at once as you possible can. Yikes! Sorry… I got a little excited there… Don’t get confused, please.Basically, you can do just about any combo using Blitzed, Space Cake, DGAF, Blow, and Bane.

I haven’t tried it myself yet, but I’ve seen people blending Blitzed into colors like Summer, Darling, By Starlight, and pretty much every other Melt lipstick, and nothing looks lame, so go HAM and have a blast messing around with Blitzed and the rest of your babies from Melt! If you do this PLEASE tag them, and me (@lesleyrocksface or @lesleymarshallmua) on Instagram so we can see your masterpieces!

It looks crazy pigmented! I can leave the house with some pretty crazy or heavy makeup looks, but I’m always a little shy about abnormal lipstick colors. This would definitely be a lipstick I’d be more prone to wear around Halloween or maybe to a festival
