A few years ago, I made a post for Viva Glam Lipglasses and lipsticks, but it’s outdated and has pretty inaccurate and lame pictures, so I wanted to redo it! Instead of grouping everything together, I’m separating Lipsticks from Lipglasses and from the new Viva Glam Miley campaign, which I will post soon. I apologize for these not being super new, but they’ve been well loved! Anything is an improvement over the photos from the last post, I can assure you of that!
Note: For the sake of getting this post redone quickly (it’s one of the posts that was lost during a power outage), I will be copying and pasting some things from the VG Lipstick post!
Viva Glam isn’t just any line of Lipsticks and Lipglasses… It’s what fuels the MAC AIDS Fund, which helps people all over the world who are living with AIDS and HIV. Viva Glam started back in 1994 with Viva Glam I lipstick, which is a classic red, and is my favorite red lipstick of all time! To this day, the MAC AIDS Fund has raised over $315 million (last I heard, anyway)… That’s SO much!
As a former MAC Artist and Viva Glam Ambassador, this cause is really close to my heart. You have no idea how genuinely excited the people at MAC get every time they sell a Viva Glam product because they’re truly dedicated to helping people living with AIDS and HIV. I got to help out at a food bank one day when I was volunteering with the other Viva Glam Ambassadors of the LA area… What we did was help pack food a month’s worth of food for people who are affected by this disease… Even I didn’t realize how buying one Lipglass or lipstick can make a difference until I saw the results first hand… So yeah, long story short: Buying one of these Lipglasses really does make a big difference in the lives of a lot of people… Thank you to everyone who helps support this cause! MAC Lipglasses are highly pigmented with quite a bit of shine. The opacity, texture, and cool payoff vary between creamy and shimmery finishes, but these do have decent color payoff, even though they contain some micro-shimmer particles. MAC’s Lipglass formula is not a runny type of gloss by any means… It’s quite sticky/tacky, but thins and smooths out once the product warms up on the lips. The Viva Glam Lipglasses actually seem less sticky than some others do. It’s applies easily with the spongey doe foot applicator, though may take a few swipes back and forth to even out and get full coverage (like I said, the product has to warm up to even out). I typically get around 4 hours of wear time with MAC Lipglasses before I have to touch up. If you want to extend the wear time, you can apply these over MAC’s Prep + Prime Lip, which will also help keep these creamy colors from settling into the lines of your lips. Using a liner first will also help keep these Lipglasses on longer!
Both of these are permanent colors and are available at any MAC store, counter, or online at www.maccosmetics.com. Each Lipglass sells for $15, with 100% of that sale going directly to the MAC AIDS Fund! Like other MAC Lipglasses, these contain 4.8 g / 0.17 US oz of product and have a very subtle vanilla scent but no flavor.
Viva Glam V: This Lipglass is a “neutral pink with pearl”… It’s a light-medium, neutral pink with some warm undertones and a pearly, golden sheen, thanks to the suuuuuuper tiny micro-shimmer particles! What I love about this Lipglass is the fact that’s it’s NOT super intense, so it can be worn alone for a “your-lips-but-better” sort of look, or it can be layered over so many different lip pencils and lipsticks. I literally have about 4 of these… One in my kit, one in my personal collection, one in my car, and one in my makeup bag in my purse haha… It truly is the perfect natural lip for anyone of any age or skin tone! You may layer this Lipglass over the Viva Glam V Lipstick too if you want to add some shine and dimension to it.
The texture is smooth and not as sticky as some other Lipglasses are, which makes it apply very easily. Color payoff is good, but looks warmer on the lips than it does in the tube… This is just due to the natural pigment of your own lips. It covers well and evenly, but it’s not totally opaque, but as I mentioned, this makes it a lot more versatile and wearable for an every day look. As with most MAC Lipglasses, I got about 3-4 hours of solid wear time before it needed touching up, closer to 4-5 when layered over a liner that I also filled in with pretty heavily, then blended in around the corners and edges of the lip.
Liners: Since this is pretty neutral, you can use a vast array of liners with this Lipglass, depending on what colors you’d like to play up… A few of my favorites are Subculture, Boldly Bare, Stripdown, Whirl, and Dervish… If you’d like to go a bit deeper you can also try Plum, Half-Red, or even Chestnut.
Note: Don’t let the overall rating below fool you! Like I said, this is not MEANT to be a super bold, intense gloss, so it’s just not going to get high ratings got coverage/color payoff but trust me, it’s gorgeous!

Viva Glam VI: Viva Glam VI is a “warm plum with pearl”… It’s a medium, plummy-pink with warm undertones and a multidimensional, though mostly golden and pinkish, fine shimmer. Like Viva Glam V Lipglass, this is flattering on everyone and cam be worn alone or layered over something else, like the Viva Glam VI Lipstick or a liner. This gloss has a little more shimmer and brightness than Viva Glam V, so it’s like a “your-lips-but-damn-girl-they-poppin'” sort of gloss!
The texture for Viva Glam VI gloss is a little more sticky and less smooth than Viva Glam V is, but that’s partially due to the larger glitter particles. Color payoff is deeper and warmer on the lips than it appears in the tube, but that’s because it does let your own lip color show though a bit… That said, that also means it’s not fully opaque, and is semi-sheer, but it’s so similar to a naturally brightly pigmented lip that you can’t really tell (if that even makes any sense… I need my coffee before I write this stuff). Like the other Viva Glam Lipglass, I get 3-4 hours of wear time alone, and 4-5 when layered over a liner.
Liners: You can so with neutral or neutral-pink liners like Subculture, Boldly Bare, Dervish, or Soar, or you can add some more color with Plum, Half-Red, or even something like Beet! It’s such a versatile Lipglass that you can they all sorts of combinations until you find the perfect one!
