New NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks: Part 3

Thank you for your patience while I’ve been working on redoing some of my more recent posts! Due to camera and lighting issues, the photos featured in some posts were not the quality that I typically try for. Fortunately, all is working as intended now and I have updated these photos. The photos may not look 100% consistent because sometimes I take them on different days, but they do reflect the product accurately, from my experience with it anyway.

I have also edited a few reviews of these liquid lipsticks, as I’ve had a lot more time to test them and have changed my mind about a few… Again, thank you for your patience and thanks for reading!

NYX Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks are one of those things that I feel may be overlooked by some people just because they’re a drug store brand, but these typically very pretty and just as nice as many of the liquid lipsticks that cost three times as much!

The original twelve shades of Lip Lingerie are just as nice as the new ones but I do feel like many were very similar to one another in color, so I’m glad they’ve introduced these twelve brand new shades. The quality of the formula is consistent between the new shades for the most part, and they’re all pretty wearable by all skin tones. A few may require a liner or blending with another color to be more wearable, but I’ll get into that in the individual reviews.

Overall, the formula for these is very creamy, but not so thick that it’s difficult to apply. It’s well pigmented and goes on evenly with most colors. These give you JUST enough time to apply and play around with them but they do set pretty quickly! Once they set, they have a soft matte appearance without looking or feeling dry, and they wear for around 4-7 hours.

The packaging is nice and feels solid, with the caps screwing on tightly so nothing leaks out. The soft, doe foot applicator seems like it could be a little large for someone with smaller lips but it’s also angled, pretty flat, and not overly flexible, so it’s easy to control for a precise application. The inner rim also catches excess product well, so there’s not typically a lot of buildup inside.

These sell for about $7 from www.nyxcosmetics.com and other retailers like Ulta, Target, CVS, Walgreens, etc… Most of those stores, as well as NYX’s website, have sales or BOGO once in a while, so that’s a great time to pick these up! Each Lip Lingerie contains 4 ml / 0.13 fl oz of product. All of these shades are permanent so they won’t disappear on you anytime soon.

As with any matte lipstick or liquid lipstick, I recommend gently exfoliating your lips before wearing these, especially during the colder months when your skin may be drier. That will eliminate the chance of this product sticking to chapped patches and emphasizing them, which these will DEFINITELY do if your lips aren’t nice and smooth! I personally like to use something like honey or olive oil mixed with sugar, since that’s natural and usually found in your own kitchen. Also, using a primer like MAC’s Prep + Prime Lip before applying will help hide any chapped areas.

To keep things simple, I’ll be posting these in three parts. Also, if you’d like to see the other twelve Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks reviewed, leave me a comment and let me know!

Delicate Lust

Delicate Lust:   This is described as a “griege” which is spot on! That translates to Delicate Lust being a medium, gray-beige with cool undertones and a truly matte finish. The texture with this Lip Lingerie felt somewhat thin but creamy and it applied fairly evenly. Color payoff is true to how it appears in the tube, but may look cooler on skintones with more yellow in them (it does look cooler on me than on some other people, and in MAC terms I’m NC, which means I have more cool/yellow undertones). Coverage is good, but not great. I had to layer it a bit to achieve the coverage seen in the above pic and even then there’s still some patchiness. It was also hard to get a lot of definition, so this is one I’d suggest pairing with a liner. Wear time for this Lip Lingerie is between 4-5 hours before any fading occurs, which tends to happen in the center of the lip and around the edges at first.

Liners:   My favorite MAC Lip Pencil to use with this is Stone (nearly the exact same color). A few other good ones are Stripdown (much warmer brown, but blends well and warms up this color nicely), Cork (warmer and slightly more yellow toned), Subculture (lighter, warmer and more pink, but cleans up the lip and looks natural), and Plum (darker and more plum).

Dupes:   From this launch of Lip Lingerie, Scandalous (darker, more gray) is the closest, but it’s still not a great dupe. From the original Lip Lingerie collection, Honeymoon (slightly warmer and more mauve) is the closest match. Delicate Lust seems to fall right in between the MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours in Flesh Stone (more gray) and Cafe Au Chic (more rosy). Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Sepia (much darker with more gray and true brown tones) is the only one from that brand that’s the same type of color, but it’s still not all that similar overall.

Silk Indulgent

Silk Indulgent:   NYX refers to this as a “baby pink nude”. It’s a light, yellow-based peachy pink with warm undertones and a matte finish. It feels creamy not not terribly thick, making it apply more easily than the other two light Lip Lingerie in this collection. It can still be a bit patchy at times so it’s best to slap on a good amount of product and commit! If you go back to add more, the applicator tends to lift what you’ve already applied, adding to the patchiness even more and making application tedious. Color payoff is pretty similar to how it appears in the tube, but it can look lighter on the lips as well as more pink or yellow, depending on your skin tone. I was pleasantly surprised with the coverage of Silk Indulgent since it can be patchy but like I said, with enough product applied from the start, there shouldn’t be any issues. Wear time lasted around 5 1/2 hours before I noticed any fading.

Liners:   MAC’s Lip Pencil in In Synch is an absolutely perfect match. Rosy Rim (a little darker and cooler) also looks nice if you want more contrast. Dervish (slightly darker and cooler toned) and Soar (also slightly darker) will also work well if you want a liner that’s a bit darker but will blend out for a natural type of look.

Dupes:   As far as NYX products go, Cheekies (lighter and more yellow based) Lip Lingerie, from the newest twelve shades, is quite different even though they look sort of similar in the tube. With both MAC and ABH, I didn’t find any good dupes, so if you like this type of color, I think Silk Indulgent is definitely worth buying!

After Hours

After Hours

After Hours:   This is described as a “warm brown nude”. It’s a pretty dark chocolate brown with subtle warm, reddish undertones and a matte finish. The texture was pretty creamy, but still a bit thinner than some of the other Lip Lingerie but that actually made application easier with this one. It also felt drier than some others so it can make the deeper lines of the lips more noticeable… Using a primer first can help with that. Color payoff and coverage are pretty good, but it may not look as pigmented on the lips or be fully opaque due to the thinner consistency. Using two light layers seems to solve that problem! I got just over 4 hours of wear before this started to fade, with most fading being in the center of the lip and around the edges at first. Using a liner will help with that tremendously!

Liners:   The best match for After Hours is MAC’s Lip Pencil in Chestnut (only slightly cooler). A few more good liners are Spice (a little warmer), Mahogany (more red), Hover (slightly lighter and warmer but looks very natural), and Stripdown (also lighter but looks very natural).

Dupes:   For a Lip Lingerie, both Teddy (cooler toned), and Beauty Mark (slightly more rosy) are close. I didn’t find any MAC or ABH dupes out of the products that I personally have.

Cabaret Show

Cabaret Show:   Cabaret Show is described as a “dusty rose”… It’s a medium, neutral to slightly cool toned, rosy plum color with a soft matte finish. The formula is super smooth and creamy but still not all that thick, which I prefer because it’s easier to get an even application with. Color payoff is good and it looks just like it does in the tube. Coverage is fully opaque without any patchiness at all. Wear time was only about 5 1/2 hours before any fading occurred and since it’s a very natural color, fading wasn’t all that noticeable. Cabaret Show is definitely another favorite for me since it’s wearable day or night and looks flattering on people of all ages and skin tones!

Liners:   MAC’s Lip Pencil in Plum (very slightly darker) looks beautiful with this Lip Lingerie and gives just enough definition and contrast without being too bold. Whirl (lighter and more rosy) also works well.

Dupes:   From this recent launch of Lip Lingerie, French Maid (lighter and more pink) is the closest, but isn’t a true dupe. MAC’s Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in So Me (darker and cooler) is the closest dupe I was able to find from that brand.
